What data we collect and why

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

If you give your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (operated by Google LLC) to collect anonymised information about how visitors use our website — for example, which pages are visited and roughly where in the world visitors are based. This helps us improve the site.

  • Legal basis: Consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a))
  • Data transferred outside the UK: Yes — Google processes data in the USA under Google’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Retention: Up to 14 months within Google Analytics (our default setting).
  • You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies. Your analytics preference is stored in a cookie called ws_cookie_consent.

We do not collect analytics data until you have accepted cookies.

Comments

When you leave a comment on a page, we collect your name, email address, and comment text.

  • Legal basis: Legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — to enable community discussion and respond to questions about our content.
  • Your name and comment may be displayed publicly on the page.
  • Your email address is never shown publicly. We use it only to notify you of replies and to identify and remove spam.
  • Retention: Comments and associated data are kept for as long as the relevant page is published. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
